Extra Credit

1. Explain what happened to the man that was killed by the subway and how the photographer was able to take the photo.
The man was shoved into the tracks by an unidentified assailant. He took out his camera and snapped pictures.
2. Why did the photographer say he took the photo?
To alert the train driver that something was wrong with his flash.
3. Do you think the photographer should have taken the photo?
I think that if he was really trying to help the man he should have but if it was just to become famous I think its wrong and he shouldn't have taken it.
4. Do you think the photographer did the best thing he could have done in this situation? Why or why not?
I am not sure I think it would have been better if he actually tried to pull the guy out of the tracks instead of taking photos.
5. Do you agree or disagree with the decision to run the photo on the front page of the New York Post? Explain why or why not.
I disagree with the decision to run the photo on the front of the New York Post because I think that it will hurt his family to see how he looked on his last moments of his life every where and remanding them how he died and that everyone knows.
6. What is more important to a photojournalist, capturing images of life as it happens or stopping bad things from happening? Why or why not?
I think that it should be stopping bad things from happening because there are always other amazing things you can capture with out something bad happening.
 7. Do you think it is ever ethically acceptable for a photographer to involve himself/herself in a situation that he or she photographs? Explain why or why not.
I think that there are some things that a photographer should involve himself/herself it just depends on the situation and if the situation is to personal they shouldn't get involved.
 8. Should photojournalists always avoid influencing events as they happen? Explain your answer.
Yes because then everyone is doubting your intentions.
9. After reading the responses from the professional photographers, what stands out as the most appropriate response for a photographer to this situation.
The blame in this controversy lies directly with the New York Post for publishing such a callous, crude and truly tasteless headline while at the same time wrongly splashing the tragedy on the front page.

Fashion

1. List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer. (Look carefully)
Face structure, eyes, eyebrows, neck, hair, lips, and ears.
2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not?
It is not ethical to change a persons appearance like this because is wrong and many people are going to see this and think is a real person but its not anymore because they changed her completely.
3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
Yes when its intended for young people and are not sure about themselves and think that the person is truly as beautiful as she appears.
4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
I think that the hair changes are ok but the rest are not.
5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
Fashion photography changes and manipulates the photo to be completely different and photojournalism makes different changes like light and other small things.
6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?
Fashion photography is for how beautiful people look, and photojournalism is to show different types of photos and scenery this affects the ethical practice of each other by how they mean in the real world for fashion is how people should look and photojournalism is to enjoy looking at photos.

Self Portraits and Portraits Part 2

Settings—The Other Subject
The settings in which you make pictures of people are important because they add to the viewer's understanding of your subject. The room in which a person lives or works, their house, the city street they walk, the place in which they seek relaxation—whatever it is, the setting provides information about people and tells us something about their lives. Seek balance between subject and environment. Include enough of the setting to aid your image, but not so much that the subject is lost in it.
A mirror or some other reflective surface offers an even easier way to take a self-portrait. In most cases, the camera will be included in the scene (but this can help make a statement about your enthusiasm for photography). You can use your camera as a prop, and hold it away from your face. When you photograph into a mirror, be sure your reflection is in focus. An infrared autofocusing system will usually focus on glass if it's aimed into a mirror, and will focus at infinity if aimed at an angle. You might try focusing at an object that's the same distance as the distance from the camera to the reflection, lock in the focus, recompose the image to include yourself, and take the picture.
A self-portrait doesn't have to be of your face—the image of two hands holding a camera says a lot about the photographer who shot his own portrait. You can also aim the camera down your body from eye level. I once took a photo of my own feet in hiking shoes, hanging over the edge of a rocky outcropping in a scenic spot (if you try something like this, just make sure you're in a safe place that you won't fall from). A picture like this will say a lot about your activities and surroundings.

                     Environmental Portrait

I liked this photo because of how the girl is position to go with her background.

I liked this photo because of the setting and the background that it creates also because the person is just a shadow.

I like this photo because it is different from just a regular self portrait.

I like this photo because of the reflection from the door knob.

 Casual Portrait

I like this photo because of the background and it is really casual.
